Many video games are based on different mythologies. Many games have been made about Greek, Norse, Japanese, etc. mythology. But very few Indian mythologies, even though Indian mythology is one of the oldest and richest traditions in the world. Today I am telling you about 10 such games that reference Indian gods.
1) Uncharted: The Lost Legacy
Uncharted: The Lost Legacy is also based on the Uncharted series like the other games. It’s an action-adventure genre game that came out in 2017. The story of the game is based on the event when Parshuram tried to meet Shiva and Ganesha stopped him. So he struck Ganesha with his axe and a tusk of Ganesha broke. Asura’s Wrath was created by CyberConnect2 and published by Capcom. This game was made for PlayStation and Xbox. It is based on Hindu and Buddhist mythology. The main character is called Asura and his wife is called Durga and they have a daughter named Mithra. The character of Durga is based on the goddess Durga. Because of this, it had to face many controversies too. 3) Tomb Raider 3
Tomb Raider 3 was developed by Core Design and published by Eidos Interactive. This game was made for PlayStation and Microsoft Windows in 1998. It’s an action-adventure genre game and the main protagonist is called Lara Croft. In this game, Lara travels to various places like the South Pacific, London, Nevada, Antarctica, and India too. Indian culture is shown when she comes to India. 4) Smite
Smite is the most controversial game from a religious perspective. It was made by Titan-Forge Games in 2014. It is a MOBA genre game made for PC, PS, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch. Apart from Hinduism, the culture is influenced by the Japanese, Norse, Slavic, Yoruba, and many others. Beyond Good and Evil 2 is an upcoming action-adventure game that Ubisoft will develop. It is meant to be the prequel to the first part that came out in 2003. A big statue of Lord Ganesha and statues of Lord Shiva are shown in this game and also posters in the temple. 6) Uncharted 2: Among Thieves
Uncharted 2: Among Thieves is developed by Naughty Dog, Bluepoint Games, and published by Sony Computer Entertainment. It was made in 2009 for PlayStation 3. It’s part of the Uncharted franchise and it became so famous that a movie was made out of it which did well. It’s an action-adventure genre game. A bronze statue of Ganesha is shown in the 9th chapter of this game and many mysterious temples and gods are shown as well. 7) SkyBlazer
SkyBlazer was developed by Ukiyotei and Sony Imagesoft and published by Sony. This game was made in 1994 for the Nintendo Switch. So the graphics aren’t that great. It’s a platform genre game. The protagonist, named Skyblazer, is the Japanese version of Garuda, the ride of Lord Vishnu and he’s looking for Sky Ashura who has kidnapped the sorceress Ariana. 8) Unrest
Unrest has been created by an independent development studio called Pyrodactyl Game which is an Indian publisher. This game was made for Microsoft Windows, Linux, and Mac OS. It was completely developed in 2014 and it was the first commercial RPG game in India. It’s a role-playing game. The graphics are 2D. It is based on Ancient India, where we see Naga which is half-human and half-snake. Nagas are mentioned in our Hindu religion as well.

9) Hanuman vs Mahiravana
The publishers of Hanuman vs Mahiravana are also Indians. In the game, we see how Hanuman saved Shri Ram and Lakshmana when they were kidnapped by Ravana’s stepbrother Mahiravana. HD graphics have been used in this game. It’s an adventure genre game. 10) Raji: An Ancient Epic
Raji: An Ancient Epic is developed by Nodding Heads Games and Super.com Ltd. It’s an action-adventure genre game. It was launched for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox 1, and Windows. This game was inspired by the Ramayana and the Mahabharata. We also get to see the Hindu goddess Durga here. It portrays Hinduism beautifully.
