Zagreus has to escape the Underworld to reach Mount Olympus although Zagreus himself is the prince of the Underworld. He wants to get away from his unloving father and Zagreus wants to meet Persephone, his mother. The game quickly gained popularity, and it was a commercial and critical success. Hades was praised for its gameplay, art direction, music, narrative, and characters. 2) Among Us
Among Us was released in 2018 and it was developed and published by the Indie game studio Innersloth. Among Us is a multiplayer social deduction game inspired by the party game Mafia and the horror film The Thing. The objective of the game is simple. Players have two roles, crew members and imposters. Crew-mates have to complete tasks and save themselves from the sabotage of imposters. Although there are new additions now, like new maps and roles this game was really enjoyable.
3) Valheim
Valheim is an open-world survival video game that was released in early access in 2021. It was developed by Irongate Studios, which was a 5-person team back then. This game was well-received by critics for being well-defined in the early access stage. Players control fallen Vikings in this game. In this game, you have to craft tools to make shelters, fight enemies and survive. The main objective of the game is to kill 6 bosses, situated at different locations. Players need to provide a specific offering to summon these bosses and if you defeat the boss, you get a trophy too. 4) Stardew Valley
Stardew Valley is an indie game developed by American game designer Eric Barone, who is also known as ConcernedApe. Players can create their character in the game who inherits an abandoned farm from their grandfather. To restart the farm, players must overcome all obstacles and ensure that the farm becomes profitable. The game has performed well due to its free-to-play nature, regular updates, and most importantly, its brilliant and addictive gameplay, which makes this game infinitely playable. Stardew Valley is heavily inspired by the Harvest Moon video game series.
5) Phasmophobia
Phasmophobia is an investigative horror game which is developed and published by British independent game studio Kinetic Games. In Phasmophobia, you play a ghost hunter. You have to go to a particular site and find ghosts. You can play this game alone or with friends. This game created quite a buzz during early access. The spooky part of this game is that you can even talk to ghosts through its speech recognition technology. Phasmophobia also won The Game Award for Best Debut Indie Game in 2020.

6) Minecraft
This game was released in 2011 but it doesn’t seem Indie at all from any angle these days. Because it’s the bestselling game in the world. Although it was made public in 2009, it was fully released in 2011. Markus Persson, also known as Notch, created Minecraft with the Java programming language. Microsoft was mostly behind the success of Minecraft as Microsoft acquired Mojang Studios in 2014 for 2.5 billion dollars. Since then the game has progressed, and the number of players has increased in number every year.
7) Raji An Ancient Epic
Raji-An Ancient Epic, which is an Indian action-adventure game. It was developed by Nodding Heads Games. It is an action-adventure game that is heavily inspired by the Mahabharata and Ramayana. The story of the game revolves around Raji who is an orphaned circus performer. Raji’s family consists of only her younger brother Golu, who is a storyteller. Then on the day of Rakshabandhan, demons attack the carnival, where the siblings work. Golu is kidnapped by the demons and Raji starts her journey to bring back her brother. This game is quite well-narrated and we get to see Hindu gods here too. Raji was nominated for ‘The Best Debut Game’ at The Game Awards. 8) Neon White
Neon White is a first-person shooter and puzzle platforming game that was released in June 2022. This game contains many missions with multiple levels. To beat a level, the player must defeat all the demons in the level and achieve a goal. After that, the player will gain experience for the end game, which allows them to see hidden items. This game has soul cards that act as weapons. Every card has a standard fighting mode and an alternate special ability that is activated by discarding the card. Overall the game is quite interesting.
9) Fall Guys
Fall Guys was released in 2020. This game is a free-to-play platform battle royale game developed by Mediatonic. Fall Guys was one of the biggest independent video game launches of all time. In August 2020, or within days after launch, Fall Guys secured more than 4 lakh peak players. Funny thing is, the game wasn’t even free then. However, Fall Guys sold 7 million copies at that time on Steam. This seems like a lot for an Indie game. In this game, up to 60 players control characters that look like jellybeans and compete in various mini-games. 10 ) Stray
Stray, which launched in 2022, is an Indie adventure game that was developed by BlueTwelve Studio, and published by Annapurna Interactive. Stray is probably one of the cutest games out there which is a delight for cat lovers because you play it from a cat’s perspective here. In the game, the player plays as a stray cat that falls into a walled city full of robots, machines, and mutant bacteria. Throughout the game, spending time outside is discussed. There are no humans in the city, only robot servants and companions. In the game, the cat gets a drone companion too which is called B12, and then the cat and drone continue on their journey together. The plot of the game is quite interesting and well-made. Also, Stray won the award for ‘The Best Indie Game in 2022’ at The Game Awards, 2022.
