Josephine Tewson was an English stage and television actress.

He was born on 26 February 1931 in Hampstead, England.

His father, William, was a professional musician and her mother, Kate, was a nurse.

She studied at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, from which he graduated in 1952.

She appeared with David Jason in the BBC radio comedy program.

Josephine Tewson semi-regularly appeared as Miss Davenport in the series Last of the Summer Wine, written by Roy Clark.

She was best known for her roles in British television sitcoms like Edna Hawkins in Shelley.

Tewson was married to actor Leonard Rossiter from 1958 until her divorce in 1961.

She later married Henry Newman in 1972.
